Shared Access, Marlow

In a country park Thames Valley setting near Marlow, DA is negotiating the conversion of waste ground near a water-ski club for a shared parking facility.

While local businesses will utilise the parking during the working day, public access will ensure occupancy at weekends for the local leisure amenities including lakeside green space.

The submission to Wycombe DC includes a detailed metric ecological assessment to comply with the latest government guidance together with a full landscape enhancement scheme including appropriate security lighting. The submission was co-ordinated by Bell Cornwell Planning.

Heritage Investment, Stowe

Heritage Investment Stowe

It is recognised that long-term management plans for heritage assets are often supported by enabling development. Adaptable land use is also considered to provide options for sustained investment.

The Buckingham Group, a leading UK contracting company, has operated from and managed 211ha of farmland immediately adjacent to Stowe National Park and Garden, a 17th Century Grade 1 Historic Registered Park. As the family business has developed, multiple planning applications adapting two former farmsteads into viable commercial premises have necessitated a careful balance between enterprise and context.

DA has provided the supporting landscape strategy in reports to AVDC, Historic England and the Garden Trust. DLP Planning have co-ordinated the submissions.

DA is also working on other sensitive planning sites across southern UK.

Urban Renewal, Basingstoke

Urban Renewal Basingstoke

Basingstoke Town Football Club has recently moved to a new ground west of the town operated by the Hampshire FA. The former 2.7ha Camrose site is now being redeveloped for mixed-use with care home, apartment and terraced housing around communal green space and shared links to the town centre.

Vertical landscape treatments are utilised together with buffer structure planting in the DA landscape strategy and supporting design statement in the application to BDBC.

Fibonaaci Architects co-ordinated the submission on behalf of Basron Developments.

Backland Basement – Teddington

Five years after the original application and subsequent negotiations with LB Richmond DA is pleased to note the final approval on appeal of an unusual 2 unit residential scheme. The design on redundant rear garage land includes basement living and garden space to address the key neighbourhood overlooking issues.

Green roofs, street tree planting and permeable paving are included to meet biodiversity and sustainability criteria. Granit Architects co-ordinated the submission and appeal for Petrow Estates with DA providing ecological and landscape planning advice.

Estate Management – South Coast

DA assists private landowners to enhance the long term property value as well as exploiting the site character in estate improvements. Projects include listed buildings and grounds where sympathetic restoration is incorporated into the masterplan. The illustration shows a former medieval Chapter House in the grounds of a Sussex Farmhouse that will be refurbished as a family country home.

Special Case Planning – Surrey Hills AONB

Achieving sustained planning success by making special cases in sensitive locations is a feature of the DA project portfolio. The illustration depicts farmstead replacement development in the Surrey Hills AONB granted detailed approval Spring 2014. Working with WS Planning and Architecture, DA advised on landscape impact adjacent to a Listed Parkland setting providing a detailed strategy and visualisation with Earth Productions.
A landscape management plan was also provided to integrate the proposal. Completion is anticipated autumn 2015.

Work continues in the Green Belt, South Downs National Park (inset photo), Conservation Areas and other constrained areas of the southern UK.

Reeds Hill Farm

The latest completed scheme for T A Fisher includes courtyard housing development around a refurbishment Listed Farmhouse and mature TPO trees. The scale of the new landscape treatment had to fit the spaces and integrate with the local building/ street pattern. DA is working on other edge of settlement projects with this longstanding client at the Hampshire / Berkshire borders.

Dadford near Stowe

Following the submission of a written appeal DA were part of a successful design team for a discreet courtyard housing redevelopment at Dadford village in Buckinghamshire. The sensitive site lies in an Area of Attractive Landscape and the setting of the nearby Stowe Conservation Area and Grade 1 Stowe Historic Park and Garden.

The inspector commented that ‘the shared courtyard design respected local character, that the contemporary reworking of traditional designs did not detract from local distinctiveness and the siting and landscape design offered filtered views that would over time integrate the proposal with the local environment.’
